The First BIMSTEC Experts Group Meeting on Poverty Alleviation held in Kathmandu, Nepal on 01 November 2017 was attended by delegations from all Member States.
The Meeting reviewed the Poverty Plan of Actions (PPA) developed in 2012 and updated on the implementation status of PPA in the respective Member States. The Meeting noted that the overall objective of PPA is to eradicate the extreme poverty in all forms by 2030 and it was, therefore, strongly felt the need to mainstream the PPA in the national plans, annual budgets and local plans of the Member States with dedication and focus to reach out to the poverty-stricken regions and Pro-Poor households.
The Experts Group agreed to convene their meeting on annual basis to share the country experiences on poverty reduction and update the status of collective actions as outlined in the PPA. The Meeting welcomed the offer made by the delegation of India to host the next meeting in 2018.
