The Seventh Meeting of the BIMSTEC Sub-Group on Combating the Financing of Terrorism

 

The Seventh Meeting of the BIMSTEC Sub-Group on Combating the Financing of Terrorism was held in Thimphu, Bhutan from 27-28 May 2015 at the invitation of Royal Government of Bhutan.
 
The Meeting stressed the need to expedite signing of Memorandum of Understandings between the Member States on combating the financing of terrorism. The Meeting discussed the importance of sharing information on national laws, rules, regulations and designated persons/entities to be notified. The Meeting also discussed on sharing intelligence on financing of terrorism and agreed that Member States will support one other in developing both human resources and infrastructural capacities of Member States.
 
The Meeting was inaugurated by Dasho Tshering Dorji, Secretary of the Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs of the Royal Government of Bhutan. Mr. Sonam Topgay, Director General, Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs of the Royal Government of Bhutan and Ms. Pranee Kaoian, Director, Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO), Government of Thailand respectively chaired and co-chaired the Meeting. Mr. S. M. Nazmul Hasan, Director (Bangladesh) represented the Secretariat in the Meeting.
 
The Eighth Meeting of the BIMSTEC Sub-Group on Combating the Financing of Terrorism will be held in Sri Lanka in March 2016.

Representatives from BIMSTEC Member States—Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand—attended the Meeting.
