BIMSTEC Workshop on Developing Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)-Phase II “GAP for International Trade”

BIMSTEC Workshop on Developing Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)-Phase II “GAP for International Trade” was held in Chonburi, Thailand from 26-28April, 2016 hosted by the Government of Thailand. Delegations from the BIMSTEC Member States of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand had attended the Workshop, except Nepal.
The Workshop was chaired by Mrs Jantida Meedech, Deputy Secretary General, Office of Agricultural Economics, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the Kingdom of Thailand and other distinguished agri-economist, experts and specialist from Thai agriculture sector.
The Workshop discussed various ways and means of developing and sharing of good agricultural practices and experiences among the BIMSTEC Member States, followed by field study visits to the Plant Quarantine Station, Port of Laemchabang and Pineapple Farms and Food Industry in Chonburi on 27-28 April, 2016.
The outcomes of the Phase-II, GAP Workshop were as follows: 
  • All Member States to submit a comprehensive paper (7-10 pages) on GAP Experiences latest by 30th November 2016 to the Lead Country, Thailand and BIMSTEC Secretariat, to be published in the BIMSTEC Website to Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of BIMSTEC.
  • The Workshop recommended that decision on further cooperation in Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) among the BIMSTEC Member States be taken up at the next (5th) Expert Group Meeting on Agricultural Cooperation.


Representatives from BIMSTEC member states- Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand- attended the Meeting
