The Meeting urged the Member States to consider early signing of the BIMSTEC Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters and stressed on the need for a regular BIMSTEC Sub-Group Meetings, as well as bilateral ties between neighbouring Members to combat drug related crimes in the Bay of Bengal region more effectively.

The Meeting also underlined the importance of including the Maritime Crimes related to narcotic drugs, container control programmes and capacity building of the Member States in close collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).


Representatives from BIMSTEC Member States- Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand and the Representatives from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) attended the Meeting
