Fifth Meeting of BIMSTEC Expert Group on Agricultural Cooperation

The Meeting reviewed and stressed on the identified Common Projects and urged to take them forward with stronger commitment to realizing their goals. It also agreed to create a Special Corpus Fund to allocate funds to enable the Secretariat to convene Meetings/Workshops and to undertake relevant studies on the Projects.
The Meeting also deliberated extensively on deepening cooperation on Agriculture Sector among the BIMSTEC Member States. Keeping in view the importance of the Outcome Document and the Action Plan of the BIMSTEC Leaders' Retreat (Goa, India), the meeting emphasizes the need to focus on taking up Comprehensive Studies in important areas of agriculture and agricultural cooperation among BIMSTEC Member States.
It also attributed to the importance of capacity building of stakeholders and institutional linkages, exploring the possibilities for collaboration with relevant development fund partners and maintaining close relations between the Blue Economy, Sustainable Development Goals and Agriculture.
Representatives from BIMSTEC member states- Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand- attended the Meeting
