The 2nd BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting on Agriculture chaired by the Honourable Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare of India, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar was held virtually on 10 November 2022, with representation of all BIMSTEC Member States.
The Ministers stressed the increasing importance of strengthening regional cooperation in agriculture and food security and the need for adopting new agriculture technology including artificial intelligence.
The Ministers also approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and BIMSTEC.
The BIMSTEC Member States were represented by the Minister of Agriculture of Bangladesh Hon. Dr. Mohammad Abdur Razzaque, the Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture and Forests of Bhutan Mr. Dasho Thinley Namgyel, the Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare of India Hon. Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, the Union Minister of Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation of Myanmar Hon. Mr. Tin Htut Oo, the Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development Dr. Govinda Prasad Sharma, the Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture of Sri Lanka Mr. M.B.R. Pushpakumara, the Vice Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives of Thailand Hon. Mr. Narapat Kaeothong.
The Ministerial Meeting was preceded by the 2nd Meeting of the BIMSTEC Senior Officials on Agriculture on 09 November 2022, chaired by Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, the Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare of India.
