Mr. Veerasakdi Prem-Aree has joined the BIMSTEC Secretariat in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on 19 May 2021 as the first Director from Thailand.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Faculty of Political Science in International Affairs (Second Class Honors) from Thammasat University, Bangkok, in 1993.

He has served as a career diplomat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand since 1995. Before assuming duty as the Director of the BIMSTEC Secretariat, he has worked as Counsellor of the Legalization Division, Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, as the Head of Legalization office, Mass Rapid Transit (MRT)- Khlong Toei Station, Bangkok (October 2019-April 2021).

 

In his more than 25 years long career diplomat, he served in several assignments in foreign countries as follows;

 

  1. Counsellor, Royal Thai Embassy, Muscat, Oman (2015-2019),
  2. First Secretary, Royal Thai Embassy, Dhaka, Bangladesh (2009-2013),
  3. Second Secretary and First Secretary, Royal Thai Embassy, Washington D.C., USA (2003-2007), and
  4. Attaché, Third Secretary and Second Secretary, Royal Thai Embassy, Hanoi, Vietnam (1997-2001).

He has also worked in several offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand in Bangkok as following;

  1. Counsellor, Passport Division, Department of Consular Affairs (2013-2015),
  2. First Secretary, Press Division, Department of Information (2007-2009),
  3. Second Secretary,Division II, Department of East Asian Affairs as well as General Affairs Division, Office of the Permanent Secretary (2001-2003), and
  4. Attaché, Reception Division, Department of Protocol (1995 -1997).

He has attended the ASEAN Diplomats Mid-Career Training Course in Manila, Philippines, and Seoul, the Republic of Korea in 2002 as well as Thai Diplomats Mid-Career Training Course of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand in 2003.

 

He received the Royal Insignias of the Knight Commander (Second Class) of the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant in 2017 and the Knight Commander (Second Class) of the Most Noble Order of the Crown of Thailand in 2010.
