The BIMSTEC Secretariat participated at the 9th Session of the Committee on Environment and Development (CED9), ESCAP, in Bangkok (1-3 July 2026). Mrs. Sonam C. Namgyel, Director, Environment & Climate Change, spoke on regional cooperation for sustainable development.

She highlighted BIMSTEC's four priorities - climate resilience, water security, clean air, and a sustainable blue economy - and its integrated approach under the Bangkok Vision 2030, including the BIMSTEC Centre for Weather and Climate and the proposed Himalayan Science Council.

BIMSTEC reaffirmed its commitment to working with ESCAP for a resilient and sustainable Bay of Bengal region.
