The Secretary General of BIMSTEC, Tenzin Lekphell, participated in the 79^th Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific held in Bangkok from 15-19 May 2023.

Addressing the Commission Session on 16 May on “Subregional Perspectives - Accelerating Climate Action in Asia and the Pacific for Sustainable Development”, the Secretary General urged international organisations to work with BIMSTEC to address climate change related challenges. Read More

On 17 May, the Secretary General addressed an event held on the sidelines of the ESCAP Session titled “Enhancing Cross Border Connectivity Towards SDGs and Shared Prosperity in BBIN – Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, and Nepal”. Read More

The Secretary General also called on the UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of UNESCAP, Armida Alisjahbana. Discussions during the meeting focused on connectivity, trade facilitation, and other areas of mutual interest related to sustainable development.
