The Eighth Meeting of the BIMSTEC Expert Group on Agricultural Cooperation was held virtually in New Delhi, India on 31 August 2021. Delegations from all BIMSTEC Member States attended the Meeting. The Meeting was inaugurated and chaired by H. E. Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research & Education (DARE) & Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) of the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare of Government of India. His Excellency Mr. Tenzin Lekphell, Secretary General of BIMSTEC delivered the Special Remarks at the opening session.

The Meeting reviewed the progress made in Agricultural cooperation in relation to the implementation of the seven identified common projects. The Meeting discussed and finalized a Plan of Action/ Work Program to deepen agricultural cooperation in BIMSTEC region, which includes the BIMSTEC Scholarship on Agriculture, joint research programmes, sharing of germplasm/genetic resources/ material transfer, exchange programmes of faculty and students etc.
