The 1st Meeting of the BIMSTEC Expert Group on Fiscal and Monetary Policy was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on 18–19 August 2026 in hybrid mode, bringing together representatives from the Ministries of Finance and Central Banks of BIMSTEC member States. The Meeting provided an important platform for member States to exchange experiences and perspectives on fiscal and monetary policy, macroeconomic stability, fiscal sustainability, monetary policy frameworks, and responses to emerging economic challenges. The Meeting deliberated on the Terms of Reference (ToR) and Plan of Action of the Expert Group, laying the foundation for sustained cooperation and knowledge exchange in the area of fiscal and monetary policy.
