A Special Meeting of the BIMSTEC Permanent Working Committee convened in Paro, Bhutan, on 05-06 October 2023. The BIMSTEC Permanent Working Committee comprises officials of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the BIMSTEC Member States representing the National Focal Points. The Meeting chaired by the Director General of the Department of International Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Mr. Cherdchai Chaivaivid, had representatives from the National Focal Points of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Thailand joining the Meeting in-person with representatives from Sri Lanka joining virtually.
The Meeting’s agenda included a series of administrative and financial matters as well as issues pertaining to BIMSTEC’s external relations. The Meeting, among other matters, considered and finalised Memoranda of Understanding between BIMSTEC and several international organisations, namely, UNESCAP, UNOPS, the World Bank, UNODC, and IORA for submission to the BIMSTEC Senior Officials’ Meeting for consideration.
