Expert Group on Himalayan Science Council

The First Meeting of BIMSTEC National Security Chiefs held in New Delhi, India on 21 March 2017 observed that the Himalayan and the Bay of Bengal ecological systems are interlinked and crucial for the vast populations of the BIMSTEC Member States. The Meeting emphasized that the deterioration of the Himalayan ecology can lead to frequent natural disasters and can have serious impact on human security. In order to study the security impact of ecological and environmental degradation of the Himalayan region, the Meeting decided to set up a BIMSTEC Himalayan Science Council to study the health of the Himalayan ecological system comprehensively and promote scientific cooperation among the respective institutions in the BIMSTEC Member States. The Meeting decided to establish a BIMSTEC Expert Group to prepare a Concept Paper and a Plan of Action in this regard.

The Expert Group on Himalayan Science Council finalized the Proposal for the Himalayan Science Council (HSC) under the BIMSTEC.
